Antique brooches are first found in early Roman and Irish history. The brooch was predominantly worn by men and was used to fasten clothes together such cloaks and capes. Over time the brooch was also used to display family linage or cultural memberships. Most vintage brooches are made of metal, enamel, jewels and semi-precious stones. Victorian brooches will have painted portraits and intricate craftsmanship.

Antique brooches are intriguing and popular. They are symbolic of position and place. In the Victorian period, brooches were associated with mourning. Antique brooches and pins are widely available today. They are very collectable and make good gifts for special occasions.
